Topic: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

I'm new to this, so please excuse any lack of knowledge.

I've just upgraded to Windows 7, but it is failing to recognise drivers for my 9652.

In the Device Manager it seems to appear under 'Other Devices', as 'Multimedia Audio Controller'. There are two other unknown devices, another  'Multimedia Audio Controller' and 'PCI Input Device', but I have isolated the RME as being PCI Bus 5, Device 2, Function 0 but removing it and then replacing it and logging which unknown device disappeared and reappeared.

When I try to do 'Update Drivers', I point it at the folder containing unzipped driver download (hdsp_wdm_327), but Windows says there are no drivers at this location.

Am I doing something obvioulsy wrong? I bought this computer from a friend with the card, which I love, already installed. I do remember trying to update drivers without success, so just reverted to previous drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Russell

Tech info: Motherboard is Asrock 4Core1333-GLAN. OS is W7 Ultimate.

Please check the unzipped folder for content, re-unzip or re-download the driver...

I have checked the folder. It all looks as I expect it should, as it is full of content.

Then please try with the other Multimedia device.

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Have tried all the devices with no success. The suspicious thing is that the other unknown devices are the onboard sound, I think. Could it be that the motherboard drivers are at fault?

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Please try the card in another slot and/or carefully clean its contacts with a lint-free cloth.

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

I have cleaned all connections. No other PCI slots free.

I have also tried an install of XP SP3 (the OS I was using before), and that recognises the onboard sound, but still not the 9652. On inspecting a backup copy of the OS, it was using 3.085 drivers and I never had any problems.

Have you heard of a problem like this before? I think it is quite an early version of the 9652.

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Update: The other unknown device was in fact a Soundblaster Live that must have been left in there by the previous owner. This works under XP, but not W7, as I belive there are no W7 drivers for this device.

I removed the Soundblaster, tried the 9652 in it's PCI slot with no success.

I'm geting worried now. I rely on this card for my studio.

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Are you sure this is an HDSP 9652 and not the older Hammerfall card....?

I'm not certain. It says '9652' on the card. How do I check, and will this make a difference?

Thanks for your patience

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Hi there in the forum and the people in the RME

I had the same problem with my HDSP 9652 so I contacted a computer specialist who fixed it by removing the driver for the old sound card and then installed the new driver for HDSP 9652 ..

But now I have another problem. channels 1 and 2 on ADAT slot 1 is missing. It's strange I can not find it anywhere ..

Are others having the same problem ...

Bassman one ..

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Russell, it makes all the difference... If the card does not say HDSP, then it's not an HDSP 9652...
In that case, this driver will work, but only with W7/32, no 64 bit support...

Basman, the first two channels will show up as "Speakers" in Windows (Control Panel).

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

Daniel thanks,

That sounds like the solution, and I'm on 32-Bit! I'll try the drivers in the morning and feedback to the forum.

What excellent service!

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

It's been a while but the card still seems to be a nice piece of gear.
BUT...which drivers do I use to install this on Snow Leopard ?
I tried couple of versions with no luck.
Cheers

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

I just noticed my card is rev. 1.1 with EPROM W52. Could this be the reason why it's not visible on Mac OS ?

Re: HDSP 9652 drivers not recognised by Windows 7

This is the older (non-HDSP) Hammerfall 9636/52. No Intel Mac drivers.
