Topic: Converter SPDIF RCA to ADAT Toslink - Mutliface driver mac ?

Hello!
I am desperately searching for a cheap solution to convert a digital SPDIF RCA signal to a ADAT 4 or 8 digital toslink optical signal. I think the RME Fireface can handle the job but it is out of my price range for this simple DD conversion. Can I use the old Multiface (1 or 2) to do the job. I cannot find any screenshots of the old driver for mac of this. So I am not sure if it can do playthrough with a hardware/software mixer or something.

The Multiface will not work for this purpose, sorry. You could use the ADI-192DD to take 2 SPDIF inputs, convert sample rate, and place the 4 channels on an ADAT output. You will need cable converters to change RCA SPDiF to XLR for use with the XLR AES inputs of the ADI unit.

You have seen my explanation that I only need one RCA (2 channels in one digital cable) to optical ADAT 4 or 8 toslink?

(Adat 4 is a standard that can provide up to 4 channels but you do not need to use all of them haha)

Or do you mean that the old RME driver does not support a "play through" (digital to digital)?

The ADI-192 DD is a bit too much for only one conversion of digital to digital wink And the ADI-4 DD does not have a RCA plug?! (also too expensive)

Ah, I see. Do the 2 CD players have some clock I/O so you can synchronize the clocks?

We should just focus on one cd player from now on wink No but you do not need one, I tested my Pioneer CDJ1000mk3 with my Prism Lyra 2 (RCA to RCA SPDIF) and it works. The clock must already be included in the spdif digital signal.

Hmn I am getting more into the RME ADI-4 DD. I am really new to this hardware stuff, how can I connect a (stereo) RCA Spdif to the RME ADI-4 DD back? I need some kind of adapter or AES port stuff?!?!

Yes, looking at the Lyra 2 specs, it seems you can SRC one of the inputs.

Yes, you would need an adapter to change SPDIF RCA to AES XLR. It's just a cable.

You can use the Multiface for this project, but it's not a stand alone device. You also need the host card connected to a computer.

Does the RME ADI-4 DD work without a computer after I programmed in with the driver/buttons? I really want a "power on and go" setup here next to my DJ booth.

I had some "overdrive" or red when I was using the CDJ digital out with the Prism Lyra 2. How can this happen with digital out? Too much voltage on the CDJ digital out rca?

Can I also use the ADI 2 interface? It does not have a clock connector but is this important in digital to digital (spdif to toslink) conversion?

Next question: is clocking really important in dd conversion? The ADI-2 would also do the job (I think) but it does not have a ext. clock input (signal from Lyra 2 coming then). Is this a disadvantage?

I just bought a RME ADI-8 DD from ebay for a good price. The manual says it is SPDIF compatible with the AES/EBU ports.
