               DIGI32/8 24 Bit PCI Digital In/Out Card

Important Informations: Driver 2.20 for Windows 95/98

Enhancements:

Version 2.20 includes a bugfix when using very small buffers (crash in Rebirth).

Version 2.1 includes support for 16 and 20 bit in 4 byte/sample mode (for SAWPRO).

Version 2.0 is able to handle the sharing of interrupts with other PCI devices like SCSI-controllers, network cards, graphics cards and USB. It also includes an 8-channel ASIO driver for Cubase VST.

Installation:

In case you already installed drivers from the RME Driver CD there's nothing special to do, just update the drivers as usual. But in case you are updating a version shipped on floppy disk, or downloaded from our webpage earlier, we recommend to proceed as follows:

- Deinstall all DIGI drivers. Highlight the card in the Device Manager and choose 'Remove'.

- Delete all old RME installation scripts. Windows 95/98 puts a copy of our audio322.inf into the directory Windows/Inf/Other. There you will find several or at least one RMEaudioxxx.inf files, that have to be deleted. Else Windows 95/98 will ignore the new script in the driver update package and automatically use the old one.

- Click on 'Refresh'. Windows finds the DIGI's but will not install them. Point to the directory where this driver update packages resides to finish the installation.

Older updates:

Version 1.80 fixes a bug in Multi Device mode when recording mono and playback stereo simultaneous (produced lower pitched file).

Version 1.60 removes an old restriction of the Multi Device mode: All 4 stereo devices of the DIGI32/8 now work correctly in mono mode (single channel files were played back with double speed in some situations). Mono- and stereo modes can be used in any possible combination, like 2x2 plus 2x1, or 3x2 plus 1x1 etc. Mono files will be played back over both channels of a stereo device in Multi Device mode.

Since version 1.50 both the NT and the Windows 95 driver have independent stereo devices. This allows the independent usage of the 4 stereo devices in Multi Device mode with different programs. The combined usage of harddisc recording programs and realtime software synthesizers like Generator or Rebirth is one example of many for this new driver technique.

Because of the AutoSync function, that allows sample aligned start of playback, all wave devices are stopped as long as one of the used programs is still in stop or pause mode. Playback will not start before all programs are switched to playback! You should adapt the use of the programs you are running to this circumstance. Also we recommend to check the 'Force ADAT mode' button, because the driver might first be used from a 2-track program (thus switching in SPDIF mode) and will then prohibit the usage of additional devices.

Please note that changing the configuration of Generator should only be done with closed Audio Device (Audio Stop, NOT Clock Stop!), otherwise the audio driver might crash.

Hints on Configuration:

Samplitude:

The older versions of Samplitude do not close the device at stop. To start Generator you have to choose Special and 'Close Audio Devices' in Samplitude.

Cubase:

Cubase lets all devices not only opened but also running. Therefore the combined usage of Cubase and Generator is very easy. De-activate one (stereo-) bus in Master and activate (opposed to our manual) the option 'Audio in background active' (otherwise Generator will stop Cubase).

Logic:

Start 'MME Setup', place the cursor on DIGI32/8 (1+2) and choose 3 for 'Number of Drivers' and 2 for 'Channels per Driver'. This will make Logic use 6 tracks, so 2 are free for an external use, which in this case is (7+8).
